The ghosts of her past

My brain stopped. My eyes flooded with sorrow, every part of me was quiescent. Every breath felt like the start of my own personal hell .“Miss Montgomery? Are you there?” I was unable to process anything- The sound of his maniacal shrieks still blared in my ears. Nothing could get past it. It had been quite a while since the last time this happened, I had almost begun to forget the intensity these episodes brought with them. “Miss? Do you need me to fetch someone?” Suddenly, I was jolted back to reality. “Sorry Mr. DuBois, I’m alright”

“Well then, the car has arrived…Are you sure you’re fine, miss?, should I call Mr. Atticus?”

“Oh no!, that’s alright” I laughed “he has quite the temper if disturbed for frivolous matters as myself” I ambled out the room gracefully. Gazing out the car window, I thought how lucky I was. Living the life I had always dreamed of… I was the lady of the castle, had maids running after me, I was the wife of a lord and had my own butler too! Any other woman would have been ecstatic with half of what I possessed, But I was not. Despite supposedly living in a euphoric dreamworld, I was still haunted by the ghosts of my past. After all, seeing the life drain out of someone wouldn’t exactly be the highlight of one’s life now would it? Especially if the cause was your own husband…It was the last thing I expected Atticus to do, he was so benevolent, so gracious, so…humane. Gilbert had been my best friend for as long as I could remember, we grew up together but he had always been rather emotional, and not in a good way. His voice rang in my ears-“Will you, Harriet Montgomery, make me the happiest ma-”

“What are you doing Gilbert?”

“Why, I’m asking you to marry me of course”

“You know I’m betrothed right?” He got an insanely deranged look in his eyes and started pacing around in circles, tearing out his hair. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” He fell, banging his fists on the ground.”

“GILBERT STOP!” Suddenly I heard the sound that ripped my friend out of existence, that silenced his deranged laughs. And I knew things would be different from then.

Note-

ok, I know that this story is kinda dark but the topic was to end it with those specific words.
